THE MalacaƱang on Saturday, August 26,
took note of the filing of charges against Caloocan policemen involved
in the death of Kian de los Santos, saying that the Duterte
administration will not tolerate wrongdoings or illegal acts from any
law enforcement officer.
“Charges have been filed against the policemen involved in the death of
Kian de los Santos,” Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a
statement over Radyo Pilipinas.
Abella underscored that President Duterte himself had reminded law enforcement officers that he will not tolerate their wrongdoings or illegal acts.
“The filing of a criminal complaint underscores this resolve of the government,” Abella said.
“Let us allow the legal process to run its course, and trust the justice system under the Duterte Presidency,” he added.
Meanwhile, Abella noted that there has been no documented bird-to-human contamination in the Philippines amid the bird flu cases reported in Central Luzon.
“The results are in --- all those who showed flu-like symptoms have already tested negative for the AH5N6 virus, this is according to the Department of Health (DOH),” Abella said.
He likewise reminded the public that bird flu is transferred via respiratory and direct routes and that properly cooked chicken meat and eggs remain safe to eat.

As this developed, Abella also noted the performance of the country’s athletes in the ongoing 29th South East Asian (SEA) Games. in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“Congratulations to all Filipino athletes who played and won in yesterday’s events in the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia,” Abella said.
Silver medals were won by Ruben Gonzales Jr. and Francis Casey Alcantara in Tennis’ Men’s Doubles; James Deiparine for Men’s Aquatic Swimming 100-meter Breaststroke; and Hazel Jagonoy, Rosita Bradborn, Vilma Greenless for Women’s Lawn Bowls – Triples.
In the Women’s Athletics 4x100-meter relay, the Philippine team won a bronze medal courtesy of Zion Rose Nelson, Kayla Anise Maico Richardson, Kyla Ashley Maico Richardson and Eloisa Luzon.
Bronze medals were likewise won by Eric Shauwn Cray, Anfernee Lopena, Archand Christian Bagsit, and Trenten Anthony Beram for the Men’s Athletics 4x100-meter relay.
Other athletes who won bronze medals were Marestella Sunang in Women’s Athletics Field-Long Jump; Melvin Calano in Men’s Athletics Field-Javelin Throw; and Denise Dy and Katharina Lehnert in Tennis’ Women’s Doubles.
